I'm doing an exterior building which has a lot of trees planted around it. I need to produce 3 images.
1. Building
2. Building with trees
3. Building with trees that are, say, 70% opacity so you can see through them to the building.
I also will need to do some post processing the the Building and site but not necessarily the trees, however the post processing will need to show up on all 3 images. Any thoughts on the best way to do this?
My thought is to do one rendering with the trees all hidden from camera (shadows and reflections will show up still. I think that's ok but not necessary.) Then run a rendering of just the trees with everything else hidden. But I'm not sure how to do that since some trees will be partially hidden by building elements and site work, etc. If I just hide everything but the trees then I have to try and photoshop out the roots and parts that should be behind the building, etc. I could just render everything with nothing hidden and use a material ID but I find it hard to get a perfect selection with small objects like leaves. I could also make everything except the trees one flat material and then just go back and select the flat material and delete it but I'm not sure how well that would work. Ideally it would be something easy to select like a bright red color with no shadows or shading. Is there a way to get a material to do that?
