Hi,

Is it possible to have an emitter NOT illuminate a scene - so I can just see thelights themselves. The following images show what Im trying to do, simulate a starry ceiling effect - but to save on considerable render time I dont want the stars to contribute to scene illumination. Ive disabled GI on this object but this makes no difference. AAny ideas?

Thanks,...

i think the only way around this is to render the scene twice, once without the stars, and a second time with just the stars.

but im sure if there is any way that this could work, someone will prove me wrong in just a second.

Have you tried it with the stars on and illuminating the scene? I can't imagine that they increase noise much if at all. Just don't make them overly bright, just enough to show some self illumination.

If all else fails, add them in post. Might be the easiest / quickest way.

No help at all, but I must say it's a beautiful looking interior, and great image too.

Love to see more. Is it work or a personal project?

thanks for the advice - I'll render with em overnight and see what happens!

d7mcfc/bubba - thanks for the compliment! - its for a pitch actually - for boeing. I've done a quick model on the fly to demo advantages of multilight for describing a private jet interior.

wow, a really great image indeed. I also can't imagine that the stars slowing it too much down.
i've got one little input to the design if you don't mind... the wood you're using looks like pine, which may not be noble enough for your design? it looks a bit inadequate to me. maybe something with less knotholes?
