We are trying create manifestation on glass in a office building. The designer wants a sprayed on colour effect. I've tried using a graduated tone in the transmittance channel, applied to a plane behind the glass, but I always end up with a hard edge, and little perceivable graduation in transparency. I now understand that the clip has to be either 0 or 255 to work. Is there another route? I have also tried adding the manifestation as a graduated colour in the transmittance channel of a basic glass texture, but this has effected the properties of the glass; where it should be clear it has softened the objects behind.

I would use two layers: one clear glass and the other the "red glass"; use your clipmap to weightmap one layer and use the same but inverted for the other layer.
