Hey Guys,

Ive come up with this but still waiting for higher SL before I post on CGSphere - Here's what I have so far:

"Ostrich Egg Lamp"

Uses SSS and Displacement

Nice :) But I don't think you need displacement for that, a normal map would do. Will make the render clear up much faster.

Hi,

@Brian & Mihai - I've switch to normal map now as yes it was taking ages even at sample level 17 :? - So end results should be better now :)

Is your ball a standard sphere with stars in transmisttance, and a displace for the tiny bevels?

@def4d - The sphere is modelled with star cut outs didnt use transmittance - displacement was used for the tiny bumps on the shell but it was a silly way of using displacement as bump or normal maps would have done as pointed out above :)

No problem, some nights each week the farm is asleep, and that's a shame hehe

That SSS material + Displacement will never be totally clear probably.

Yes its nice to have 11 nodes, its a must for me since we often deliver 5-6 views for a project, and if every view must be high res, with ML etc, you need some power :)
