Maybe I'm missing something...but it appears Maxwell Render will not search through nested folders when assigning a path in the Bitmaps/Default Path field.

Since I keep all my texture maps arranged in folders by type (ie. metal, plastic, wood, etc.) in one master Textures folder located on our network, it would be nice to link to the main folder in cases where textures may have moved or when network rendering.

yes, it's really very annoying that you can't add multiple search paths like you can do in max...
i know, in studio you can add "some"... but in mxw client i can only specify one location. so... and my .ior files are not in that location they are in the install folder.
at least only a second search path in mxw client would be helpful.. more would be better...

Multiple search paths would be a great addition. I use these in FormZ as well.

My issue here is that Maxwell will not search in any of the enclosed folders of even one path.

The only option is to move all the textures to a single folder that contains no nested folders. With thousands of texture maps in a library this becomes very sloppy.

Additionally, this becomes problematic when rendering using Network Render, as all of the associated texture maps need to be copied to the same location of the MXS file being rendered.

Weel, this is a common question that usually appears with the materials downloaded form the MXMGallery.
As you know, the MXM Gallery contains materials that many users create and upload. Very often, their materials are still pointing to a local folder on their computers. To avoid this, the last version of Maxwell holds a new complete path searching system, specifically design to fix this frequent task.
When you assign a material, both Maxwell Studio and MXED (the Maxwell Material Editior standalone) will automatically start to search in several different folders to fix the missing paths: inside the project folder, inside the textures folder, inside the Arroway textures folder, inside all the folders you selected on the Maxwell Preferences, inside the recent used textures folders, and so on. If Maxwell can't find automatically the missing texture, you can manually browse to the specific location and then Maxwell will automatically search there the next missing paths.

Moreover, there is a new feature built both in Maxwell Studio and in MXED: it's called "Fix Texture Paths", and is under the File Menu in the material editor. This option is designed to scan all you computer and fix automatically all the texture paths.

This are new implementations that run in MXST and MXED, but they're not able through the plugins, because the usual 3D packages as max, c4d, lightwave, maya, sketchup, etc has not this complete searching and fixing system built-in.

The best way to avoid this problem is to assign the materials you need with MXST and save and relaunch you're scene, or using the automatic fixing option in the MXED.
I hope this could solve the problem.
