I thought Shutter Angle and FPS were settings used for rotary disc shutters/motion picture cameras so why are these settings within Studio? For motion blur? I thought the only way to achieve motion blur was through a plugin/animation software so why are these settings in Studio? Bit confused.

That's right but you might want to change the amount of motion blur by changing the shutter angle.

? So how can you create motion blur in Studio? I thought motion blur is created using the plugins.

Yes, it's there for making conversion easier for the motion picture guys. For example, one would ask for rendering a frame at the same exposure of 60 degree rotary shutter on a typical 24 fps motion camera and this handy interface will quickly evaluate the matching photo camera shutter value as 144 using the following transformation. Internally, Maxwell doesn't have rotary shutter etc, this is just a conversion on the UI.

maxwellShutter = FPS * 360 / shutterAngle

Aaah I see! I didn't notice that changing those values changed/overrides the shutter speed setting nearer the top of the panel.

Sorry, changing those parameters will not affect the amount of motion blur in the scene opened in Studio, but allows you to 'convert' the exposure from a film camera to a photo camera, in case you want to change the exposure in the scene. Well, what Tom said :) You can't create motion blur in Studio since it doesn't have any animation capabilities. You have to use your main application and export through the plugins.
