Now here's something I've noticed while changing the camera settings:
After turning off the "keep aspect ratio" under "resolution settings", changing X Res or Y Res values (default are set to 640x480) causes camera to act strange: Now while camera frame is within the Vieport, everything is fine. But when one of the values is bigger then that, "Focal length" of the camera changes automaticly, but ONLY in Viewport - the "Focal Length" under "Camera settings" (for example, default 35mm) value doesn't change.
You can see what I'm talking about by setting the Y res value to 3000 or so, while leaving the X res on about 400.

I'm not sure if it's a bug or not, but it causes big problems when rendering a wide shots for example.

PS: I've noticed the problem in all recent versions of Maxwell, so it's not a metter of 1.7

It occurs to me, also. But the problem shows up only when changing width in my case...so the workaround i found is to keep the mantain ratio checkbox ticked, set the desired width, then uncheck and set height indipendently...this is typically one of those things i am so used to do that i always forgot to report it...!

But the film back changes also when you change the width or height of the resolution. The resulting focal length of the 'lens' depends also on what film back size the camera has.

Mihai, in my case even by changing the ratio just a little bit, the image shown in the viewport becomes deformed and there is no way to restore the correct one, even by resetting the resolution. I've just spent some time trying to replicate this step by step but it just occurred apparently randomly...

hello, it's not a question of resolution it's depend on the film back size. If you set your film back to 0.036 x 0.024 with corresponds to a SLR film size your perspective will looks as you want

no ?
