Are you in triangle selection mode, by any chance ?
You should be in object selection mode, to select the entire mesh and flip the normals in Studio.

I am in object selection mode. I tried out both to see if it made a difference but they perform the flip the same way.

Eurofiles wrote:Studio (below) confirms that the displacement map is correctly applied to the model. However I'm still getting the shredded dog upon render.
Would it be possible to PM this obj along with displacement map? May be something wrong with the vertices, perhaps not all are connected....

This is an old matter when you import/work and export again an object from Zbrush.
YOU HAVE TO IMPORT A MESH, by clicking the star polygon 3d mesh, then ACCESS to the Tool/import and then to CLICK on MERGE , then and only then, to import your object.
You have to export by the same way.

It's also possible that the whole map is flipped..but in this case, the poly are not going to explode.

jurX: Oh i see, it looked like it was displacement with holes in it but now when you say there are no holes i see i were mistaking. Stupid eyes i got :D anyhow, good work! keep them coming please

Bubba: That's looking real nice :) you beat me to it by making a displaced brickwall, i looked into creating one but had only poor maps in my archive. Btw, that's one massive rendering and it's very clean too..

Brett: Hehe :) if you only knew.. i been waiting for displacement in Maxwell for many many years now and now i need to get all that creativity out before it dissapears by creating everything i can asap :D and this displacement works so well compared to others i used which makes it even more fun to work with. Can't... stop.... myself...... from...... displacing...... everything!

Two more for you guys, a dragonskin based on a Vray material and also a pinecone material which is still a work in progress but so far this is what it looks like. :)
