Many thanks for the test Rivoli.
Looks about right. I see you didn't have time to play with the miniscus :P

What IOR did you use for the liquid ?

If you had some time, would you compare it with the result from the hybrid IOR (glass/liquid) method that was mentioned in the other threads earlier ?

there you go:

first one hybrid IOR glass of wine (n glass/n wine _ in this case 1,56/1,33).
second one mihai/thomas glass of wine.

which one looks better?

that's what i thought. i'm rendering another glass with a different shape right now. we'll see.

...because the second one has strong red caustic which is questionable.

yes, but what do you think about refractions? which one looks more realistic (or accurate or likely or whatever)? this is what i can't make out anymore, after all these glasses.

to answer the refractions we need a better setup

ok then, i give myself up. glasses of wine no more.

hmm, this is the exact oposite of Mihai's test... and I kinda find this hard to believe. The bottom one must be the hybrid IOR.
( We get strong caustics like that when using only three surfaces and the hybrid IOR method uses only three surfaces (counting from the top) )

Also, the hybrid IOR method does not use the ND of liquid, so the refractions would be expected to be slightly off.

believe me thomas, even if i can't offer a better setup i'm pretty sure the first one (the one above) is the hybrid one. three surfaces (glass IOR 1,56, wine top IOR 1,33, between glass and wine IOR 1,17).
second one is mihai glass of wine (two surfaces two IORs). still working on your glass though. but anyway, you know how your glass works.
