tim, your Jun 20, 2006 7:37 pm Posted images look wonderful,, the ferrari looks way better not as falt anymore and the scene looks great.. the Grean paint closups also look very nice..
way to go on a great shader.. thanks for your process and your screen caps in the previouse page.

Edit.. i was looking at your coating settings.. you may not want it.. but i was going after those really BANDED look to a coating i was working on..and i wasnt getting it. .no matter what the thickness of the coating was.. till i realized the Default coating Nd is 3.0 !... and If you change the Coatings Nd to 1.0 you can get those coating rainbow Bands back.. .. may not be of any use here..cuz the coating at Nd 3.0 is more "noisy" but it was driving me crazy for half a day till i realized to change the coating Nd to 1.0.. maybe ppl already new this but just a general Fyi about difference between Nds for coatings..

:D Yeah finally it's ready. Metallic car paint shader.
It's not funky glittering flake candy paint, but i like it.
It works in any distance and it's really simple to use.

I had really hard time trying to find right kind of bump,
but i think it's working now.

This version is light grey. It's the best way to show how material works.
I'll add some other renders tomorrow.

Mxm and texture zip file will be downloadable in few days.

Thanks for the tips. I will give it a go, for that 'just washed & waxed' look.

I have been experimenting with chromaflare/pearlescent paints, but not had great results yet. I've tried using some of the interference type coatings that are present in a few of the preset mxms as well as 90' colour variants, but it's not doing what I want.

LarsSon sir, great work. 8) I like your flake design, this opens endless possiblities for variants in metallic paints.

Your bump map is similar to the ones I use with Blender, it really helps with the final effect.

I feel a car paint shader repository on the near horizon. ;)

I'll wrap mine up ready for a release on Sunday night, or sooner if I have enough time to spare.

Superb resluts. :D Edit> wow what a typo, not changing it for comedy value tho'. ;)

Should read superb results. ;)
