Brian, I recently built one for $1419.63 including tax and delivery charges.

This is what I've got: Antec300 case, Coolermaster 750w ps, extra 3000rpm case fan (makes for 2 total case fans), LG DVD burner, Asus p6t (not deluxe) mobo, i7-920 overclocked (very stable) at 3.8Ghz, Noctua NH-U12P heat sink w/2 fans, 6gb GSkill DDR3 1600 ram, EVGA GTX 260, 500gb hdd, MS Vista 64bit Home Premium os.

Love this machine...boots up VERY fast with Vista.

great price - it's crazy how much cheaper the non-Xeon single sockets are. you can't even get a Dell 2.66 GHz 8-core Xeon for less than $7k. My 8-core Nehalem Mac Pro 2.66 was a *bargain* at $4500k + tax.

i did a xeon vs. i7 rendernode comparison on the weekend, setting up components i would by atm.... thought i share it with you...things are getting cheaper...

these are european prices, the i7 has a total 14,4 GHZ @3.6ghz and the xeon 17ghz @2,13 ghz.

core i7: ~850€ w. 12gb ram

the thing I'd like to see is a render time comparison between those two.
does anybody have a simliar configuration around?
an update on the benchwell site would be much appreciated! or just unlock the damn thing :(

I wonder if that will be much cheaper than the dual quad core. Also, since the dual uses QuickPath and a shared cache, I wouldn't expect the single chip to be too much faster at the same clock speed
You will be know at next week.

nehalem x will be an MP (4 sockets+) chip.. traditionally the price for these is way out of budget.. not many people need such power in one machine and they cash of them.

single chip prices now:

xeon mp 7350 ~2100€

xeon mp 7460 ~2500€

Sure, If someone is rich enough to afford to buy it, he will got it.
And then, he will take the first place of benchwell list. :)
I didn't said it's cheaper, I'm just said it's a monster.
The Performance monster and the price monster
But I can say that 2500euro is cheaper than another copy of all softwares someone has.

the new Intel Nehalem-EX coming out later this year will have 128 threads PER processor    With the reported speed increases in MW v2, on one machine we could be looking at a high quality render in less than an hour which would have taken maybe a couple of hundred hours on my previous dual core machine!!!

I think you mean 128 per 8-socket system. 16 per processor.
