Don't forget that some of us are using 3D apps like Solidworks or Rhino where there is little or no mapping features. This makes studio a must, which is better than buying/learning another 3D app like Max just to use the more advanced MW plugin.

Solidwrks and Rhino will be slowly filling in these much needed features, which should then make MWstudio less important. At that time maybe plugins are just fine.

AND as already stated it is great to be able switch between platforms (Mac & PC)

I am jealous of all 3Dmax users who are spoiled with all the attention to their MWplugin !

Max and a few others were the original target applications for Maxwell and it wasn't until later that the others were added along with studio. It only seams fair that the Max plugin be the most advanced since it's had the most development time and it's users have been waiting the longest.

Ditto Studio is the only option for me if I want to apply textures. Texturing in SolidWorks 2006 is a joke (this is not the fault of NL) and SolidWorks 2007, apparently hasn't changed. I doubt SolidWorks will improve texture support for several years if ever.

So I for one am very grateful for any work done and will be done on Studio.

C4D were among those first ones and we have waited just as long, yet the Max-plug is about 10 steps ahead of Cinemaxwell. Not exactly what i would call fair.

:D I want to reply this thread because i am a little shocking by the word of JTB...
Maybe some people use also Mental Ray for high end rendering... So we use it actually for animation cause we can drasticly optimize the render time per each frame. But, JTB, if you try to reach a high end result on a design render in 3000x1500 for exemple, with complex MR shader... take a little moment to understand all qhat you need to achieve it quickly!
Just a render farm too, like MXR.
A really quality in Mental Ray is reach in minimum of 14 hour for full quality. wich is nearly the actual time of MXR for a good render.
When i work on Ghost before or Brawil after or Vray... i was forced to upgrade the hardware suite of my dept office. And i ll do it each time i win a quality step ahead the actual step. That is our business i think. If we ll be able to stay with the ONE hardware setup for 3 years and improve quality without spend a little dollar... say me how man.

I feel Maxwell team open the door of a really powerfull render generation !
And if we need to invest money to make this technology more usefull and more produktiv ... i ll do it and my office too...

Just want too say : NL, give us power tools and we ll give you power DCC.

i would use studio if it were a stable and fast application without bugs.. instead...i am not ideologically against it... but u unhide unselected and i t crashes... selecting is orrible in some cases because the selection system is in my opinion underdevelopped...
-- besides in many cases is slow..... importing is a snooth process? or give crashes too? i dont know since i dint even dare to import objcet with v1.1 ...but in previous version it crashed oftain..

.... studio look like Layout in Lightwave....( maybe that is why Lw users find it easy to use) --- but whyile the feed back with Modeller is quite smoother and effectfull... the feed back between the studio and your application is , imo, very boring....

I'm on the same boat here. I'd add animation - I think it will be easier to animate what I build in rhino in studio.

I don't really like to have to switch between two applications, and having to fix something in the model gives you double the work.

But I think there is room for studio to take. If you think of a movie like workflow (Iknow it can take long until someone produces a movie with maxwell) having a standalone texturing enviroment (at a low price per seat, since you get one free per each 4 processor cores) is a good idea.

And I know that at least one rendering engine is developping an application like studio. Air (www.sitexgraphics.com) jumped into this.

But they added something studio does not have and I'd love - being able to replace and object, keeping everything else there - even the projectors would be nice!

Hello,

I think I am in a better position every day, compare to others using pro aplications as Max Maya etc.
I work in Autocad, and import to Studio.
I cannot do any mapping animation or material assignment on Autocad.
Studio cannot read DWG so I have to export to DXF then import to Studio.
Each time I made a change I run the risk of loosing smoothing properties materials and projectors.

:?: :?: :?: Please can you quote the sentense that shocked you? I think there is a misunderstanding here :!: :!: :!: I mean, you are talking about mental ray, but I think I didn't say anything about it because I have never worked and don't even know how to work with Mental Ray. Maybe I used MR as Maxwell Render and something was misunderstood.

Exactly my words! I love Maxwell, I use it all the time, this is how I started my post.
