[INSERT MAGNUS POST HERE]

Some pop-artsy rendition of an old model of mine. Was supposed to be plastic, but i'm leaning towards bubble gum now...

Hehe Adrian, i erased my post because i thought my example rendering sucked :)

But i'll say it again, the renders you guys posted are stunning examples of SSS in action. I am impressed!

Here's a silly test by me, it's supposed to look like clouds on a sky using sss on cloud like metaball objects.
Image

As you guys can see it needs A LOT of work to look like clouds but i'm sure with more time spent on it then this can be done with good results. :)

wow all examples r awsome! I am totaly blown away by the volumetric showcases! wow cant believe we got that in maxwell already!
and MAx i like your try on the clouds now too-this will be somethign well have to keep explorign.. reminds me of michalogues old fog tests-maybe hell come out o hiding and use the new 1.7 to do updates on his fog scenes..
this new mx1.7 release kicks major ass.. finally alot of wishes granted from nextlimit.. Thnx for finally implementing the wishes weve been making into a release!

Bubba: Hehe, i didn't think of that :) some nicer cartoony clouds and more tweaking could make that into a cartoon cloud shader for the MXM Gallery.

3DTP: Thanks :) glad you enjoy the very early clouds test. But there's more to come.. keep your eyes open on this subject is all i can say.

hey Tyrone...

a question. how many polys does that dragon have ?

Tom could you give the settings for this:

And the white part of this please:

I believe they will help me next weekend when I try to make a skin shader as the candle waxy image has a nice dryness to it (maybe porousness is a better word) and the molecules settings convey the lower objects presence.

The dragon has 225, 586 polygons.
thank you !

from this POV, one sees very good the geometry of the dragon that seems to origin from a 3dscan. some toes and other small features are a little jittery and don't bend the light very smoothly because of lack of enough polys...

or do you use a hypernurbs object in cinema to smooth it out already ?

Snow revisited with SSS added to the material to it. Ignore the bottom spheres showing through the groundplane.
That's because the groundplane has no volume. There are some meshing issues on the spheres, it has nothing to do with the material.

Personally i suspect this needs more work to look realistic :/

The dragon comes from the Standard 3d Scanning Repository as the 'Asian Dragon' this version is a much scaled down version of the much larger scan that is available. I make look into the higher resolution version and see how it fares!

The sss presets are great, but this one is missing:

Wow, I've seen some fantastic renders over here. Tom, I love that poured milk render of yours!

A question: I've just upgraded to the latest Maxwell and Max plug-in, and I want to render a candle with a bitmap texture on it, using SSS. But when you choose the new SSS model, your BSDF bitmaps are deactivated and I see no map slots for the SSS.

In other words: whassup? :) How to render SSS with a bitmap in stead of a solid color?
