I have no clue.
Make sure you launch the scene over the Maxwell Render gui (mxcl.exe -d) with its default settings and don't have Maxwell Studio running in the background. Also, make sure you use the 32bit Maxwell version, the 64bit version gives very high render times for many XP users.

I am on a crucial moment here trying to figure out what kind of server to chose but it seems Benchwell.com is offline, i´ve been trying since last day but can get the site to show up here ...

Any clue ?? Already tried both Mozilla and MS Explorer.

Hi

Can i check that for the benchwell scene i can change the CPU threads to 4 rather than 2 as i have 4 CPU cores....or does that break with the benchwell ethics.

Is the point to run the scene as is?

The scene should come with threads set to 0, which defaults to autodetection. There was a bug in 1.5.0 for windows which didn't allow me to export with 0 threads, but I've updated the scene ever since 1.5.1 is out. Use as many threads as you have cores; This topic is also mentioned in the readme that comes with the scene files.

Thanks Adrian

Im a red blooded male....i dont read instructions....i just open the packet and get on with it!

It was set to 2 threads though, and it wasnt untill i looked at the cpu performance and noticed that they wernt running at 100% that i investigated further and changed it to 4.

Anyway, Thanks again....will post my results to benchwell soon.

Matthias : You are rendering up to level 17 and the current mxs scene is set to 15 max. That's where the extra time comes from ;)

wow ... the range on the benchwell page is amazing.

From almost 4 hours down to 11 min ... just on hardware

Yeah, actually a pretty good oversight on how hardware progressed in recent years. With videogames constantly getting more demanding, you never notice how much faster new systems really are.

I've been knocked off...
It was bound to happen.
I would expect to see more time compression as we move on. Especially once Leopard for the MacPros is released that allows more efficiency with 8 cores over Tiger. Animation with Maxwell Render is now a reality. 11 to 12 minute frame renders is not bad.

Makes me wonder maybe we should put together an Xgame competition for this benchwell.

The first computer to get to under 5 minutes would win - Single machine (unlimited cores/processors) no multiple computers or render farms. This would have to be supported by an animation of the actual rendering to prove its validity.

We could call it the Benchwell Prize.

Nice idea, we'd have to either collect money (Paypal) or let it be sponsored by NL or some hardware manufacturer, which seems less likely to happen :)

edit: or software for that matter, maybe a Modo license, or a Fryre... j/k :P
