mmm, rendertimes?, I guess we won't get an impressive improvement in that field, I rather see impressive features like DISPLACEMENT. (I'm tired of a friend of mine that uses fry, he's constantly rubbing me his displaced renders in my face  )

ok this z-clip loks cooler than similar things I used before. I have use the one in form z, but it is better used positing the camera forward I can't do something like making a perspective shot and cutting the side. I am looking to how it works?

Question on the z-clip... What sort of material assignments can we use for the exposed sliced region? Can we pick a specific color and can we utilize a bitmap and/or standard Maxwell material (so you can have for example, cross hatching or similar pattern)?

Z-Clip is the starting point from the camera that faces will become visible.

So if you make the interior of your model colourful, those colours will be seen due to z-clip.

Very useful for showing off the nice interior of the office block you're rendering, without removing faces, or using the current 'Hide to camera' method in 1.1.

If you want a quick test, Blender does this in the Camera edit buttons. A numerical value for distance from the camera's origin.

Hope that explains. (If NL's interpretation of Z-Clip is different, please forgive me in advance.)

Sorry for the confusion. I was asking about the surface of the actual slice - of solids (in the sample picture that Nicole provided, this area shows as black).

Ah I see what you mean. I initially thought the black was a modeled section.

<Awaits Nicole's reply.

Yes, i'm curious about that as well. It simply seems to be non-shaded, which might be the only way it works :/

Isn't this a camera effect in a way it clips the geometry. Then i doubt you'll be able to map the clipped surface. Although it'd be great if it were possible to map it with a hatch type pattern.

Maybe.. just maybe if you can do it by using a type of materialchannel for this and then remap it in post or something. I don't know..

Hi everyone,

Another image by Tora... It's an old-fashioned telephone in very high resolution. You can have a look at the original image (10,000 x 8,120) by clicking on this link:

Beware: 19 MB

Take a look here at a smaller version:

and at a crop:

Hope you like! :D

Regarding Michael's question about the exposed surface of the slice: I am not sure how that works, but will get back on that as soon as I can.

Thanks!
