Thanks guys :) just testing a bit but i think i need to buy some chocolate to see what it really looks like, this is more of a shooting-from-the-hip attempt hehe

Here's a slightly modified chocolate material without displacement slapped on the horsie (or donkey). 50 minutes rendering with a hdr.

I also found the old thread with my very first adventure in chocolate land :D a very poor attempt if i can say so myself. It looks more like a brick of brown clay than chocolate.

tokiop: Take a look here, they have all South Park episodes online so you can watch them when you want :D great fun stuff on there

Thanks Bubba & Teabag :) ..i still think the choclate could be done better, but i let someone else improve it further.
The malachite material actually uses sss, you can barely see the text from the sss bars shine through the stone surface texture. For these types of materials i'd love to have volumetric materials, meaning they project the maps through the inside of the mesh and not just on the surface. That would be soooo powerful and awesome but also incredibly resourcehungry and timeconsuming to render.

I played a bit tonight with a closeup of a human skin material, but i don't know.. this one feels kinda odd and unrealistic. But i post them here anyways. :)

I'm sorry about all the variations i posted above, but it's from the progress of this skin material. I can't decide what looks good and bad but i think the last one at the bottom of this post looks okay..

interesting skin tests, Maximus - but I think the color-tones are not quite there yet...

True Kurt, the colors are not yet good for this type of skin and i'm having great trouble matching both the colors and getting the sss to look natural. :( this was no easy thing to do with Maxwell, atleast not for me.

Btw, i adjusted Thomas materialballscene a little to make it better for testing my skinmaterials on and i used Luxology's headmodel for that as it's a nice mesh and has skinfolds and all that. :)
To test that i used the last skinmaterial from my previous post and applied it to the head and ran a 60 minute testrender at 1000x1000 pixels.

Some mesh and UV errors there, i'll try to fix those tomorrow.

Sure thing Brett, i'll bump it up to the MXM Gallery as soon as possible. :) thanks!

Here's the chocolate material on the Luxology head model, just for fun :)

And i rendered two new lowres tests of the skin material. Are the colors still wrong in this one ? i been staring myself blind on this thing for 2 days now so i'm a bit lost..

I also tested both of my old styrofoam materials i made before, rendering at 1000x1000. :) thumbnail links below.

That last skin material posted looks alot better specially the color! I think that is the hardest part of doing a skin material! almost there tho! :)

Teabag: Thanks :) yours and Bubba's opinions sure differ like day and night now :D he thinks the exact opposite of you. You're right, it's probably the single most difficult material i ever attempted at creating, that's why i'm not finished yet, still more work to do..

Bubba: Still to pink ? damn.. alright i'll try to fix that as soon as my machine is up and running again. Getting it to look average in color is not easy as it can look either to pink like this, or too red, orange, blue or dead.

The one i liked the most is the styrofoam at the bottom :D that's my personal favorite.
