Nice work! A special congrats on such nice texturing with rhinoll! My mxcl started crashing too this weekend. Hmm...

Hello Frances,

Don't laugh, but I actually retract my comment...I like the original view better. The rotated view looks weird. I think the key is showing the wood base of the light. In the close up shot, where you can really see the base, the composition is clear and understandable.

I'll just keep my mouth shut next time. :D

Hi deesee,

I've revised the view. This is a low quality test render I did when I was trying to get the lamp shade the way I wanted it. I didn't bother adjusting exposure or anything, so it's really dark.

Likey, Likey. Are you still using the shade as an emitter or did you go with SSS and an emitter inside the shade itself?

Thanks guys. :)

Deesee, the lampshade uses sss and a 100w emitter object. That black noise on the wall just gets worse as the render goes on. Finally the render crashed at around 15 samples.

The lampshade, except for the trim, is single-sided. That might have something to do with the odd noise. I'm doing a test render right now with the transluscent part modeled as two-sided.

My renders get dark around the 6 sample level range. I've seen it get dark from around 5.97 to 7.1. But then, at the next SL update it clears up again. Perhaps this darkening is related somehow to what's happening to you.

I've also noticed it regardless of what materials are in the scene.

Well, I'm about to give up on this one. The render crashed somewhere around 10+ hours and 17+ samples. Here is the latest version:

The noise on the wall from the lampshade kills it. I may go back to the original design with the light pillar. At least it was rendering relatively cleanly and wasn't crashing. I'm starting to suspect that SSS is the culprit.

Yeah I've been doing this silly office scene for a while now, first with alpha 1.1.33 (which i posted), then i tried same scene with the beta 'cause i wanted to use sss for the plastic parts on the chairs. The effect was nice but it kept crashing every time after 12 hrs, and ram was always freed up when it bsod'd the system...think sss was the problem...

Anyway looks great :) even with the noise from the lampshade...I'd go with the light pillar though it gives a more abstract and radiant quality to the image... :)
