Thank you for updating this sequence of comparisons. RC5 appears much better at clearing noise within metal caustic than previous versions of Maxwell Render. I hope the progress seen in RC5 will be continuous.

Seeing is believing, .... nice. :)

Comparison image on the first page is updated with Maxwell version 1.0.

Seems like the noise doesn't really clear any faster.

But, on the other hand, the colours are very rich, and multi-light is amazing! I actually don't think I could go back to another renderer that doesn't have that feature!

I had to use the complex IOR copper material. The tow other copper materials included in the materials database were far inferior to the complex IOR one. They either had weak caustics or colour. Perhaps I just need to spend more time tweaking the material, but that's a little counter-productive....

nice comparison but what's up with the light in v1? did you change something or the distribution is different? the corner up left is considerably darker in the new image... :?

The light is definitely different between V1 and the old versions. I had to use a very different setting to get similar exposure. Not sure exactly, as I messed with it quitte a bit with multi-light.

I think the caustics quality is definetely better with V1 ! The caustics are more defined and sharper. Maybe thats the reason for the render to be a few seconds slower ...

Hi Mike

It's just a fairly small square surface to the right of the camera:

I think, 2 triangle emitter would make a slight gain in speed.

This was a screenshot out of Rhino. When it exports the flat surface (emitter) as a mesh it usually does so as two triangles. Odd thing is, I just opened the mxs in Studio and it appears to be a single quad. If I then select the emitter material and pick "select triangels with this material" it states "1 object, 32 triangles". If I just select the emitter by clicking on it in the perspective viewport it reports "1 object, 0 triangles". It also reports "1 object, 0 triangles" if I click on the meshed ring which has 12396 triangles.....

Something's not completely accurate here......

I'm quite sure I'm not really getting a quad in Maxwell, since I understand it does not interpret quads, only triangles.
