Have to agree. I have tried few times to use it and i have always experience some crashes.
are you people running 32bit OS?.... just wondering.. because i have applied simulens to images beyond 12MP without it ever crashing.. really i never had problems with it in 1.7.. but it takes ages for big images
i did crash on me in earlier versions of maxwell or it just stopped crashing
when i switched to 64bit.
Yes, XP 32bit for me.

@pwrdesign:

here is a simple test you can do to prove Tom's point:

increase the light amount of the lamp behind the glass with 50% and render again with simulens activated. you will get your desired light glow.
(by this I don't mean that you have to 'cheat' with your light, it is just to prove the theory and that simulens is working correctly)
As far as I can detect, (and which is the only correct way to handle) the simulens effect is based on a logarithmic scale, meaning that the effect is optimal for areas which have let's say an rgb value of 255,255,255 and dramatically decreases where these values are reduced. if the lamp pixels have only a value of 245,245,245 while being blocked by the glass, it could be that the simulens effect is already non existent, while values of 250 each could still have a 30% effect. don't quote me on the exact numbers, I am only guessing now. but all this can be accurately calculated.
