Is there a way of saving out .sky files? Or how can you make them?

You can import/export .sky files from Studio using Environment Settings (with Physical Sky active) using Load > From Disk and Save > As Preset. Similarly, in the SolidWorks plugin you can do the same things from the Scene Manager > Environment Settings toolbar using the 'Load a Maxwell .sky file' and 'Save current settings to a Maxwell .sky file' buttons.

To get a feel for how the sun should look in the renders, go outside and stare at the sun for a few minutes.
