Here's an image with the new material...something is going on with the mesh. Is it possible the mesh is too refined?

If you could temporarily remove the reflectance map, it would be easier to see what's wrong the displacement settings.

Ron: You're welcome :) and if you or someone else finds it useful for something then i'm satisfied.

jvm: Strange.. but what's your mesh looking like ?! i haven't tested this material myself so i don't know if it works at all.. guess this means i need to test it now.

My 1st test with this material and i can say that the current 8bit map it uses for displacement sucks! it makes the material unusuable. And it needs atleast a 16bit, but best would be a 32bit displacementmap to avoid any of the visible steppings seen in this example.

I wasn't aware of these problems and i'm sorry :(

Here's a version with the reflection map off...

Question: Is it because the map is 8 bit, that it appears like this?

jvm, i have no clue what it is i'm looking at there heh.. but one thing is for sure, it looks strange!

Best solution to solve this would be to simply recreate this material from scratch, it's to messy as it is now and it needs a complete rework to be a 32bit displaced pebble material.

Max-

Hi. Looks like I'm beating a dead horse going on with this...I'm just curious as to how it's distorting -- trying to figure out if it's the mesh, displacement or both causing it?

Anyway, thank you for sharing the materials.

Try a different material from the MXM Gallery instead, you will probably have better luck with it than this one. :) i think there's atleast one similar to this one on there you can test.

It's probably a combination of both the 8bit problem with the displacement and a possible polygonal problem with your mesh, as you said. Both..

Bubbaloo-

Hmmm...I'm gonna need to export from Rhino to something else. What do people use?

Bubbaloo-

It can be converted into a polygon mesh in Rhino, but I don't think we are talking about the same thing?
