here is another one, rendered in 1200 x 1800 px,
after 16h 39min only level 12.04 was reached.

Target was 25, but that was in far distance, since the level changed every 10 minutes about 0,1...

so, here it is:

C&C welcome !

and the second thing is, where are the damn caustics ???
The caustics you can see in the preview were shown since sl 4 !!!
why does it last so long to clear out ?
i´ve seen other images here with a lot more dialectrics and even heavy geometry, so why are these images clear after 12 hours or so ?

i mean, this is only a small lighter...

Model is pretty nice, you have captured the plastic like intensity of the colour, and the model is pretty accurate to my eye...

except:

-most new lighters like this have a paper lable.. I know it's a custom 'special' maxwell lighter, but the labels (at least in my country) are mandatory, and all lighters, even solid gold ones would have a lable. Well, not that I know from seeing one... but anyway.

-The metal is too refined, it's formed and polished like an aircraft engine part. Lighters are mass produced and made out of cheep steel... they are a lot more 'textural' steel, little wrinkles of pinching near the corners.... some directional forming marks...

-embossed logo... I'm used to seeing the little 'bic' or 'mk' or whatever stamped into the steel right beside the indent for the lever. (on the sides of the steel top)

-perhaps reduce the reflection a bit... examining the amber lighter (same model) I have here... you can see the center well wall very clearly, it's like a very dark amber where the surrounding plastic is almost yellow.

-the part of the striker wheel which contacts the flint is made from rough grooved steel, much the consistency of stone, very rough, not reflective in any way...

Most of these details would be invisible if the lighter was placed as a prop within a larger stage. It's level of detail is very high and more then enough if used as part of a scene... like the first image. A lot more geometry or bumpmaps will need to be added before it can hold up to such a close up.

I do love the black lable... very convincing as a gloss screened lable Also, its very refreshing to see something like this... I've had enough kitchens and bathrooms for a bit.. :)

Anyway, great work so far.

cheers
