Since Oscar has retracted from the forum it seems that other NL members have as well. My main question is weither or not Maxwell is still ready for an October release?

Since we now know that alot of Beta testing has gone on without us it's hard to understand where they are in the process. I am concerned about a few features that need to be working by the release: Mix maps were supposed to be working long ago, Clipmaps with Physical Sky, Aspect ratio to match other renderers so we can composite (very very important), and what exactly does the 'particles working' mean (will we be able to do Hair effects and such?)

Also I've read and experienced alot of crashes in the newest release. And since we aren't getting any more updates I'm concerned about stability.

My last little gripe I need to put in the bugs section: I built a house with a copper roof and with Physical Sky lighting it doesn't come out right at all.

Everyone wants and October release including me but if ALL these things are not addressed then I don't think NL should release it till it's done!

Also concerning matching Aspect ratio and ability to render hair effects. Both would be nice but We MUST have one or the other or Maxwell will be crippled.

Don't forget displacement...It was in the first roadmap.

I saw a Maya user say that it worked in Maya so i assumed (probably a bad idea) that it will work in the others by release

I'm sure it's not implemented yet. Probably he refers to the maxwell's excellent bump map.

I would consider anybody who still believes in that date as clueless.

All this complaining. We have pretty much what they promised so far.

Frankly, if the NL staff keeps replying to the forum and fixing bugs that in some cases will be non issues in the final release (because those features won't need to be accessed through the host sofware - it can be done in the stand alone MW - supposedly??) then when can these guys get all this work done? They don't have a hundred guys on this thing.

I hate when I'm in the critical point of any project and my email box fills up with fires that need to be put out. Let me do my job. Let's let NL do theirs.

I think there are enough experienced and tallented users on this forum to assist anyone with their problems for next two months. I just wish I was one of them.

NL Team - take time away from the forum, but give us a great product in return IN OCTOBER !! :?:

Maybe I'll join the bashing after October? we will see......

But that is a 'catch 22.' If they don't deliver everything they have promised in the final release, sure someone else will but not for at least 1 or 2 years. The reason people like buffos and to some degree I am upset is the time frame at which I can expect to use these features that I have come to be used to.

I love what M~R has the potential to be! When I started doing CG some 5 years ago I had a hard time with various renderers as they were quirky how they needed to be tweaked to look right. In M~R the world I grew up in is my guide as to how to set up the lighting. It's very natural :D The problem is now that I understand what M~R could be I'm stuck with a tool that as of yet is just a hint of what I've want for these last 5 years.

I just really really don't want NL to rush out a final version that doesn't have all the things they have promised for the Maxwell 1.0 release. They released the "Beta" ON TIME and it was not at all what a Beta should be. Weather you agree or disagree with Buffos and Wolfkiller everyone one knew that this is not the Beta that they had us all worked up for. I don't want a repeat of this where NL releases Maxwell 1.0 ON TIME just to find out that the things I need are not there. Then they would rest on the fact that they had done their job and who knows how long it would be till the corrections would be made. I want 1.0 to be everything they have promised that 1.0 would be.

The people who support the idea of not getting upset about the Beta issue and the no more updates issue are the same people who if M~R 1.0 isn't what they promised will be saying "Don't worry they will fix all that in a point release..."

If I made you believe something then you came to me and said "Hey you didn't do as promised!" I would have some explaining to do as to how either you miss understood or I miss spoke. That hasn't happened here. NL seems to be a bit timid. I just want to sit back and let them work as well. They aren't able to communicate well so let them work. But the final version cannot be less then complete.

Considering that only about a month ago the "Beta" was as far as they have gotten then I don't see how It is possible that the promised features will be ready in October. Unless that are Scotty from Star Trek!
