It would surprise me big time if this would be compatible. In their position I would certainly not promise that and in your position I would not believe in such a promise. They can't and they mustn't restrict themselves so early in the process.

I highly doubt the final will be backwards compatible since so much will change and be different from the beta to the final. Usually you find the same "trouble" with other programs too that's in developement. I don't think it's a big problem if it's not backwards compatible.
