Hi,

I guess a couple of people asked that already but what's the best way to simulate sun rays shining through a window?

Here a simple test with window and door pane using light coming from within the rooms only:

No window (and door) pane:

With panes (looking from outside the room):

OK, here things work as expected:

The reflections in the windows are there and because I'm looking through glass inside the room I get brighter reflections (kind of a glow effect around the light sources) and a slightly blurry image ... Let's turn the physical sky simulation on:

No panes:

With panes:

Difference (false colors):

Things I did expect and are visible: The whole image has effects as discussed above (without the physical sky simulation) and in addition the image with window panes get brighter because I'm outside and the sky should reflect in the door panes.

Things I did expect but didn't show up in the image: I can't see the bright sun light on the floor or the sofa. OK, maybe the simulation has to render much longer but I did tests before with a similar setup and it doesn't look like the sun light comes through completely. Or does it scatter that much?

Should I use area lights from outside? And forget about the physical sky simulation?

With other renderers I might have used spotlights and limit the angle as much as I can to shoot photons through the window panes ...

Cheers,

Jan

In the images of the first post we guess transparency depends on the size of the floor, that´s pretty anoying, and doesn´t seem to be very phisically correct does it?.

¿And what if we need a big floor? (for sure we need a flor anywere), ¿Do we need to make a "tile" floor?, this sounds a bit supid to me..., I hope this will be fixed in the final release in order to be production ready.
