Hey NL, mahalo for the Beta 1.2.1 patch - very nice work! Much improved over last week, and I'm especially happy about the blur-bug fix. Here's a quick render with a fairly raw Revit model, just to test the new version...

...a few more samples, plus:
*.png image-based lighting on a scene-size hemisphere (360w/m^2), 8 C-type interior emitters:

very good looking stuff, only thing that bugs me is the very short depth of field. are you sure the scale of the model is correct?

Hi rivoli,
Yeah, I know what you mean, but it's an Imperial units file and the scene scale is .0254/1, so I'm pretty sure it's okay - the camera had a 5.6f setting - I adjusted everything else a few times on the fly in the renderer, can't remember what ISO / shutter I ended up with...

Here's something I'm curious about though: I can't ever seem to get the Maxwell viewer to open up the MXI images I'm generating during renders. LDRI output images work fine, but I always seem to get this when I try to open the accompanying *.mxi:

You shouldn't get such a narrow dof if the scale was correct.....

what is your system unit setting in Max? note: NOT the display unit settings, but the system unit setting.

those are two different kind of MXIs. the MXI created by maxwell with -mxi:w can't be used as MXI emission (the MXI created through maxwell viewer from a ldr image).

Mihai: Man, I owe you a beer! Many thanks for the scene scale advice - I guess you learn something every day :) . I had been thinking that the Max system units variable referred to this:

and not this:

Rivoli: That clears the confusion up, again, thanks for your input and taking the time to look at these images!

Mahalo!
