This is not my first image but the first that I'm reasonably pleased with. It still has noise and not quite as sharp has i had hoped.

the details are

sample 20
fstop 8
shutter 10
iso 250
focal 4.5m
physical sky with no sun

and a long 39 hours baking

Any suggestion for different settings that might improve the image

nice render, but if it is the original size, it is way too long... 39 hours for a grainy image....com 'on.... :?

nothing personal.....

for the suggestion... hummm... start to give small bevels to all these harsch corners.... he he...
.
also the leather text is to big

and you have strange lines around the doors...

last but not least.... put more objects.... a magazine on the table for instance....

the image wasnt huge - 1024*768 and i did render it on my laptop.

the strange lines around the doors are intende they are aluminium recesed shadow moulds that continue around the door and above the flush skirting.

This is a real job that is on site at the moment and the image has been produced so the client doesnt stray too much from my design.

I shall ad more detail to the image when i get chance.

How could i reduce render times - the early stages where quick only an hour to sample 11 and 4 to 15. I left it running in the hope the noise would disapear

I think the best answer would be some sort of special algo. in Maxwell to clean it at a certain point....

Opps sorry for the Metal part for the doors... I thought it was a problem...

:: what's your wall material settings? looking good::

the walls are just plain diffuse white - 255,255,255 no spec, bump etc

You should avoid having full 255 color, this means light loses no energy as it hits a wall, the light rays keep bouncing and bouncing, the render becomes very inefficient.

Try changing their color to 240-248, and avoid also any full saturated color like 255, 120,120.....120,255,120 etc...
