hello maxwellians
so, i'm a freelance graphist and i work for several packaging agencies.
I make packshot for them to show for their customer product that doesn't exist yet.
My purpose is to make them very realistic. Today, i work with Vray, it's a good compromise quality/speed. And now maxwell render, that sounds great but i can't put it in my production workflow, it's too slooowwww (i was disappointed a bit with the new beta, but men i'm sure you are on the right way).
I discuss with many professionnal photographers and show them my images, they're amazed by the quality of DOF of mawell, but notice some strange things with their professionnal eyes, essentially lighting. This the question, i can't answer thanks for your help (help of Tom, maybe.)

A plane emitter mimic a soft box or i must modelling it (like flashlight system)
and for soft lighting can i achieve a diffusion panel with the new SSS shader ?

More to come, i'll post some images in the gallery section by now i'm overbooked.

to simulate indirect light reflected on white panels (as for a studio setup) i use big emitteres planes. they give very soft shadows and usually work fine.
i think i remember betty once said she tried to reproduce a real studio setup, but lighting the scene only with indirect light gave too much noise and didn't work out as expected.
it may be different with this beta, but i haven't tried yet.

haven't tried this as yet, it would be nice to see some testing on it.

if some people are intesresting of studio setup,
i begin working on a tutorial with different type of lighting
to achieve result of a studio setup (packshot)

Rivoli, i make some test with a panel (with sss shader apply on it)
in front of the light panel, that's diffuse lighting and it's great (i will post the image). The result are more accurate than Vray !!! But please more speed for maxwell.
if people are intesresting about that, let me know.

long life with maxwell
