I've had about 6 crashes while rendering using the beta - none were from pressing stop. 3dsmax didn't crash, just M~R. Each time I just hit render again and M~R worked fine with no scene changes. The beta feels more like an alpha version than the alpha did. I had no crashes with the alpha...

with max i had just two crashes, one changing fstop through the mxi viewer while rendering and the other one hitting stop. i guess i got lucky so far.

I have crashes too after hitting the stop button. It is good only after hitting the "X" button of the window.

but it's strange....
as i said b4 i had no crashes with mxcl.exe in any way yet.
and some of you say you have constant crashes with stop button.
since we all use the same mxcl.exe, this must be about something with os.

tom try rendering the biggest scene you can in terms of both polys and texture size. Make a render with say 3-4 2048 textures in the same scene.

For me the mxcl is more unstable if I have heavy geometry and big textures.

then it should be about memory management and afaik it's still being under intense development about optimizations and efficiency and stability, probably the next patch may include an improvement for this issue... who knows  since there are several serious issues, i personally accept some delay on this...

Here the same effect - simple scene no crashes, complex geometrie (but without textures) much crashes.

I have the same problem occasionally - crash only when I press stop. Doesn't crash consistanty tho.

I just let a high poly' scene render over night and have had no crashes during rendering - as I mentioned before I only get sporadic crashes when using the stop button.

but only if u press stop button about 3 times, it will crash.

Mihai Iliuta: A high poly scene I'm presently rendering the second layer for has about 12 JPEG textures (colour and bump maps) up to 4098dpi square.

I don't get crashes during rendering (not on the first layer anyway).

Seems the crashing problem is affecting people in different ways.

Personally I like the beta version better but accept there are some problem areas that need prompt attention by the developers.
