Any ideas what could be causing this in 1.7.1 ?
The render does not even closely match the preview ....emitter intensities stay very dim in the render and refuse to increase as in the preview.....rendered fine the previous day

Does it stay the same with higher sampling levels? The preview in 1.7 tends to look brighter than the real render, also as the render clears more you'll have a better idea of the final intensity.
