the lights in the mirror may (with noise of course) appear somewhere near SL 22 or even more, I left my computers running for a week once (long vacation) and was wandering about a similar thing...

I recently rendered an interior bathroom scene with a panorama mirror in it.
What really threw me off was, did I set the wrong nd? I used some rediculously high value for it (something like 100-150).

In my image everything seemed warped and streched.

Is there a proper nd for ordinary mirrors?

sorry for hijacking ...

It's a current limitation of the renderer. Actually, all unbiased renderers have this problem. The reflection will appear though, but it requires a lot of time to show up.

You have edge smoothing too high maybe

Okay, since I'm working with the cinema plugin I guess you mean to high phong shading angles?

I tried lowering it and also setting the material to nd 50 and then to nd 5.
No chance, I still get wild distortion in the mirrored image.

I guess I'll start a new thread on this.

arkviz,

you mind posting your material & smoothing angle options on those mirrors?

Very simple:
one BSDF
ref. 0 color: 200,200,200
ref. 90 color: 255,255,255
nd: 20

all other values: 0

smoothing is 25°, object is only stretched cube, so smoothing has no influence.

Ah okay, thanks.

I was trying to create that beveled edge thing some bathroom mirrors have,
probably I made the mistake somewhere there...

I have just one idea. With the current version of Maxwell, where caustic in the mirror appear in high SL, if the mirror is somewhere back in the scene, you can use AGS glass instead and copy and mirror your scene behind the glass. It can help more in some cases than waiting days or weeks for render...
