Leonardo that is a beautifull render and very juicy grass! hopefully this technique can be more efficient in the future..

***

i really don't want to make this a habit.. but these are wip images from a project i can't show yet

but it is about grass anyway..

this is supposed to be Australia, dry landscape.

i used displacement for the groundcover and lowpoly objects for everything bigger.
the way it is set up, it will work for smaller prints and online viewing, but it would show it's weakness when printed at A3 or bigger.. it is a trade between texture resolution and camera distance.. both views are eye level.

btw. m-Que come back here and tell us how you did that :P ..looks great!

poly , this looks great , captures the arid Australian landscape perfectly.
Can you outline your workflow here ?
and also the source of the lo poly eucalypts ?

I agree though the grass looks a bit burnt!

The low poly gums look great from a distance though suffer from the normal low poly flat plane leaves that most do - that doesn't take away though from the fact they are nice!

thanks pipcleo & richard,

i am glad to here that you can feel a bit the mood i aimed for !

it is not too complicated, just a huge texture map i made in photoshop, reprojected onto the ground surface.
i however made my own brush so i can paint pixel grass dots, which is what you need to do to get the maximum out of the resolution. So you have to start painting at the right res from the start, as resizing will blur your pixels..
concerning the displacment, i created a high res meshes for all the ground, to keep voxelation time lower.. at leats i think it should help to do that.

richard, i totally agree with what you wrote.. the grass is well burnt, my client kept complaining about it being to green :)
..and i should defineatly keep some distance to the low poly trees..

Nice [CENSORED] images, polynurb
But I DO like it. Looks more like rye to me. But it definitely gives that right mood to the image. Perhaps you should also try bringing more red/orange colors for the soil - it's very typical for Australian landscape.

BTW: Here's a 'grass tutorial' I used for the grass:

Enjoy!

:D

..yeah some more red might fit well.. i'll see maybe i find time to check it out.

and great tutorial M-Que i was not aware of it's existance
i will give this a try next time.. in rhino, "flow along surface" is an excellent command to distribute such premade patches to complex terrain...

The red would depend on where in Australia!!! I guess the closer to centre yes but coastally fairly dark soils are normal.

Poly as pipcleo asked - would love to know where you sourced the low poly gums? I'm creating my own at the moment given the general absence of good ones!

sorry for my late reply..

check out vue, there is decent eukalyptus in the library!
generally it is hard to find good ones, i know... i also ended up editing a bunch of them by hand to get the look i wanted..
