Make sure your image size (in inches) is correct. If you have a huge resolution render, but create a pdf when your paper size is 2" x 3" it will look bad. What is the size of the final printed paper size?

be sure to create your own preset and disable all subsampling/compression for images.

the standard pdf, will internally crunch your image into a lower res jpg w. medium compression

sup bub and poly,

yeah i printed at 8.5x11

I resized the image in illustrator to 8.5x11 and then exported as pdf..looked terrible printed.

i tried again shrunk the image to 8.5x11 i photoshop and printed straight from photoshop as an uncompressed tiff...looked better but not "perfect".

? Am i doing something wrong?

what do you mean by "shrunk the image"? make sure "resample image" is not activated while changing the document width and height.
an 4000x6000 image should come out sharp under almost every normal situation ;) does it look sharp on the screen?

There are some simple rules about printing that should be common sense:

Lets say you rendered to a file that is printable in A4 300 dpi.
In maxwell this results in 2480x3508 px.

You open it in Photoshop change the res without resampling so you get 300 dpi..

Lets say you were going to print it in a5 size now. Just changing the size by skaling it down in a layout app like indesign will start to expose your image to blurriness.

What you need to do is rescale in PS and then resharpen at 100% zoom to make sure you get what you see.

hope this helps
