Not sure what NL will have to say, but I know that other engines have trouble anti-aliasing unclamped/HDR values when you have something with a >1 value adjacent to a <1 value. The range in intensity is to wide for anti-aliasing to deal with easily. Essentially it's a tone-mapping issue.

munch, if you have cs4 try the new local adaptation method to convert from 32 to 16bit.. the curve editor finally works and is very helpful to control overexposed regions...
