As far as i know no you can't animate displacement with Maxwell, and i would never even think of doing that considering the long rendertimes and the noise it would contribute to a scene. Think ..animationflicker deluxe! :D

If you're thinking about the rabbit changing shapes in the animation i'd say that looks more like vertexmap type morphing between different modified shapes of the same model. It can be easily achieved in Modo or most other 3d applications out there. It's not something you would do with animated displacements.

Btw, good looking reel :) and nice to see another fellow Swede here. Welcome to the forum Micke.

Hello and thank you:)

I feel welcome.

Regarding the animated textures mabye its best that i am a little more precise *s*

For animated characters we often use driven displacements/textures to change the way the creases and details looks on the character. I understand that it wont be possible under considerable time to integrate maxwell with all the nodes we use in maya to mix the final texture.

But, this can be solved by rendering out the texture range and then reconnecting it... If, maxwell were to support animated textures.

We are about to build a big big renderfarm here in Trollhättan so it will be taken care of. Your welcome to give it a run for its money fellow Swede.

Cheers

hello meindbender!

first of all, really nice animations on your website :o !
i have to agree with MAX, do not use animated displacement-maps in maxwell for the following reasons:

-flicker
-rendertimes
-a lot of mxm with different dispmaps
-no preview of the displaced height
...

i did a small test in MAYA, done with a nice free plugin called displaceD (i`m sure you are using it too), which works pretty well!
you can feed in any texture, in my example the maya-ocean texture and tweak them in real-time...

btw. we have a small motioncapture-studio, so if you need some mocap-data, you will get a special maxwell-user discount!
