hi all

finally i have to time to get back to waxmell..but i have a few problems.
i tried to find the answer by using the search function, but other than recipes for 'poussins farcis aux noix et prunes' i found nothing helpful...

so these questions seem to be really stupid to some of you powerusers..but my brain is still wired for maxwell beta..so thanx alot for our help

the default file location for the material brower is in 'program files/blahblah''

but i want it on E:/blahblah ..i copied the materials there and in studio i set the file path to E:/balhblah..but each time i fire up the material editor as stand alone and click on browser he goes to program files/blahblah.

also how can i delete a friggin material in the browser..i even cannot delete it from windows explorer..i had to restart in safe mode, open a shell and delete it like that. how come waxmell has higher user rights than me as an administrator? or which process do i have to kill to delete the darn file?

Did you restart Studio after setting the path in Prefs? Prefs>Paths>Materials

Also if that file is in use, you can't delete it. You should close Studio to delete the mxm.

oh! it was because the default material was still point to program files/blahblah..i corrected this now and pointed it to a material on E

but can you delete materials in the browser?

and i can't definitely not delete it in windows explorer..going to the folder and trying to delete the files manually..they seem to be used by a process..but i closed all programs

i must add i use the solidworks and rhino plug-ins..maybe they run in the background..i know some swx services run in the background..might this be the reason i cannon delete the materials? i'm on vista 64 ultimate..like in ultimate failure :)

Yolk,

Maybe this is the cause....

Maxwell now installs the application extension "thumbplug_mxm.dll". This allows the MXM thumbnail to be viewed in Windows Explorer.

I've ran into issues if a MXM doesn't have a preview or has a corrupted preview. The thumbnail extension seems to hang up on these materials, making them always appear to be in use. This doesn't allow it to be moved or deleted.

I've been able to fix this by opening the offending material in MXED, re-rendering the preview, and then relaunching "explorer.exe" from the Task Manager.

I have not experienced any similar mxm-hangups, but I can say that the Rhino/SW plugins only run when Rhino/SW have loaded them, which should mean, only when you are using the actual application in a normal fashion. Furthermore, those plugins are not concerned with mxm files at all, other than when you use their MXM Browsers to drag an mxm file into their material databases. Afterwards, the material which was created is plugin-specific, and uses a different file type; those files, which are only read when necessary, reside in the app data directory under your user-profile.

If the problem is thumbplug_mxm.dll, it will be running in Explorer's process; open Task Manager, kill explorer.exe using right-click > End Process, then re-start it by using File > New Task (Run...), typing explorer.exe, and clicking OK.

Yolk,

I've only had this happen a few times with some materials I've downloaded off the MXM gallery. It's never happened with materials I've created myself.
