if I want to add a weightmap to a shader, and apply that to an object with TILING OFF, and the weightmap is smaller than the object, then the object color beyond the weightmap becomes semi transparent and has the reflectance 0 color.
I tried all possible combinations of reflectance/transmittance colors (0/255)
and weightmap neg/pos settings, but I cannot make the object transparent beyond the weightmap.

does this mean that the weightmap needs to be bigger than the object always?
this means calculating, since I need a cylindrical uv mapping and thus have to measure the cylinder, and exactly add enough white space around the weightmap image so that the tile does not overlap?

I suppose you wouldn't have to measure the weightmap exactly, just add black color to the areas that should be invisible, so keep the 'original' weightmap, increase the size of the canvas of the texture in PS, and add black around the new space.

tnx Mihai, I'll try that. but still, I think this must be fixed...
I only need a very little word on a big lens ring, so I have to make my weightmap 30 times bigger...
would me more logical if the transparency would match the outer pixel color of the mask...
