Thomas, the tests are not here to prove that there is something wrong with the Fresnel effect in Maxwell (even if i think there is a problem). They were just done to show how to enhance and control this effect. Now i agree that if we want to be sure that Maxwell handle it well, it will be good to make some real test comparison. But personally i have not enough time and patience to start such work.

Same here, but I watch and hope someone will do it!

Those doors was a plain example of "coatting thing". There is a laquer on the wood. When we look at 0 angle we see 95% of wood and some week reflection of bright part of enviroment in highly polished coatting. but in 90 degree view this coating (laquer) bounces 100% of light rays and wood isn,t there almost at all.

I ran some test with simmball . I cloned it and scaled to 100.01% then give this copy something like glass with material with low Nd. renders looks almost as in examples.
I don't post any images because this forum seems not to be so sofisticated for this kind of features.

Dear Hyltom I worship Your material maker skill, in your test please set Nd value to 1,07 to achieve similiar effect to your solutions with .r2 file.

And another thing in those african material . Wood shoudn,t be lambert mode, because it gives almost equal lighting on grazing angles, it should be 80 rougness . layer at 80% weight. Nd=8
second layer 20% weight with ref0 - 111,111,111(no map) ref90 about 64 Nd=15
3rd layer this one with Nd 1,07 weight 100%
all in Additive mode (200% so uncorret phisics ;) )

of course I agree with You , this trick with .r2 file is most effective and scalable. and it imitates coatting on wood just perfect, but I wrote all this for fun with exploring the most unintuitive material system on earth.

Did you know that Maxwell has a coating feature?

hyhy of course :p but it was fun to mimic a real conditions.

Coatings renders so slow, that my try with mesh-coating was much faster clear.

and when i was ripping throug carpaints I've realized some 'specular' reflections on coatings sometimes gain colour from under "base" materials (I used >1000 thin).

Witt3D - I think you should make another photo of this door at 0deg angle but when they "facing" light from window not dark wall of this room. there should appear "outline" of photograher i think. just shut the door and click from room.

oh my God I should be more carefull on my english lessons.
