Having a little problem here......

Have a scene in Max. When I hit render from Max, I get this:
Code: Select all
[05/December/2008 20:51:03] Reading MXS:C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Desktop\Klein.mxs
[05/December/2008 20:51:03] MXS file read successfully
and renders just fine.

When I export the scene as mxs, or specify mxs output in the render dialogue, I get this:
Code: Select all
[05/December/2008 20:48:44] Reading MXS:C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\Desktop\Klein_tmp.mxs
ERROR: - MXS file does not exist
no render.
Why is it not writing the tmp to the desktop where I have the .mxs saved?
Why not just render the one that's working from Max? Because I want to tweak in mxst and then pack and go to network for network rendering.
Can I upload the file? No.
Am I getting frustrated? Yes.

Any help is appreciated.

There used to be a problem with multimaterials when exporting from Max. The plug-in creates a triangle group for each sub-material to simplify selection in Studio, but an older version of the Maxwell SDK garbled the group data which was passed to it. The resulting MXS rendered fine in MXCL, since MXCL doesn't need that information, but caused all sorts of problems in Studio, including the one you're having. However, this was fixed a while ago. The latest Max plug-in is 1.7.8 and the latest Studio is 1.7.1. Are you using older versions?

If you are using the latest versions it must be a new bug, but there's not much we can do without the problem scene.

PS: it is trying to write the tmp to the same directory as the MXS (that is, to the desktop) but it fails for some reason. That thing with tildes is just the short path for the desktop. It's not rendering the one that was saved from Max because it has to produce a MXS with the tweaks you've made, and that would mean overwriting the original file, and you probably don't want that all the time. By the way, can you make a small change in Studio, hit ctrl+s and open the file in MXCL? Does it still render then?

Mihnea, thanks for the response.

I would have no problem sending you the scene, but unfortunately I am under a non disclosure agreement for the project. :(

The file opens fine in studio, but I get a cannot write file error message when I try to save.

mxcl was able to read the mxs output specified by Max, so I just deployed that and had to put all image maps in same directory..... minus the tweaks.

p.s. did not know that. thanks.
