Can someone tell me why a clip-mapped material (tire marks on street) is working as designed in a stand-alone file, but not in the file with the complete scene?

The first image is of a formZ file that only has the street objects and a 2D surface with clip-mapped texture to add the tire-marks in the bus lane.... And it works fine.

The second image shows the same textured objects pasted into a bigger scene, but NOT working... Transparency of the objects isn't behaving properly... Is it memory? HELP!

Below is the only image map in my MXM. I've got it in the texture slot for "transmittance."

In this case i would use weightmaps, to mix two layers of material, where the 1 st one is you concrete road with transmittance map moved (not copied) to weightmap, and the 2nd layer totally transparent with same weightmap of layer nr1, but inverted.

take a look to this sample... it is easier than explaining for me :) : http://mxmgallery.maxwellrender.com/vot ... =0&id=3962
i did this material using this simple concept.

Do you have sunlight turned off in the test render? It's probably due to that and that in the final scene it will take to calculate and if using transmittance and the ND is not 1 you are getting a caustics effect with transmittance and in this case you are looking at the caustics through the refractive material which will take a long time to clear up.

Luca,
I initially tried creating a material that used the weightmap method, but had a tough time making it work. I will now go back and try again!

Mihai,
The sunlight is on in both renders and set to the same settings... The ND is set to 1. hmmmm

Update coming soon.

The weightmap method seems to be working now :) I just need to make the tire marks a bit less pronounced...

Thanks!

Matt, your pavement looks really great...you must have used separate materials on different sections of the concrete???

Thanks Joe.
The pavement map is one that was posted to the MXM Gallery (Pavement_Road_7776) that I edited to add the yellow stripe and to dimensionally match the configuration of my street among other things. The section that the cars are driving on is one object with this map on it.

The sections that the trees are in on the left side are several other objects.
