JTB,
To answer you question, I am and have been quite jealous for a long time of all the extensions and "extra" tools available to all the other apps out there. And over the years it has gotten worse and worse... There's still no RPC content on the mac, there's no "fur" or "hair" generator in formZ, no cloth simulation, no gravity, no parametric tools for architecture, no tree plug-in, etc., etc.

It was only with the arrival of Maxwell as a plug-in to formZ that my interest in formZ was renewed. I finally felt like I could model the architecture in the program I knew best AND get results at least as good as the best rendering apps on the market. As I said before, I use Onyx and Poser, and export to OBJ. (although see my other thread today about having problems with Poser exports...:( ) To fill in the gaps, I also have nice libraries of photographic people, cars, and trees with perfect alpha channels to make them useful.

But I still pine for more plug-in "extras" in formZ...

lets all raise a sigh of sympathy for mac users worldwide.....'ahhhhh'
Shame that the two dominant forces in the computer world are run by ego centric money grabbing wankers. Reaching great heights by standing on the shoulders of the deceased or the introverted is not a nice thing really.

Jay Milner, Clive Sinclair to name a couple of the creators of the medium.....................anyone remember Imagine, and the Amigas. anyone remember what IBM pcs were doing back then? And isnt Jobs just a marketing twat?

What happened?!?

Lets remember that this isn't a conversation about the Mac in the creative world. It's about the best MODELER for Arch-viz. Is jobs a wanker? I've never met him, but I'd lean towards a "yes." Do you think the PC/Windows world would be where it is without Jobs' lifting of Xerox's ideas? I'm not so sure of that. It takes a brilliant "marketing twat" to take an idea and make it succeed at a grand scale.

my $.02

Out of respect for the threads original intent, I would suggest starting a new thread on Mac vs PC to continue this. :D

Just that?
Are you satisfied with all these workarounds we have to use even for simple things? Use ramp for curved floor, use wall for rails, use ramp for roof... and what is this weird thing called inplace family?
How can we have walls with an angle with Z axis? How can edit the profile of curved wall? How can we export our RVT model as OBJ,3DM, etc? How can we import OBJ, 3DS, 3DM?
Really, there is sooo much to do and Autodesk is not ready to do it!!!

As I often say, I prefer Revit, not for what it is now but for what it can be...

Sorry about the tangent..... Yes I have met him and people who have worked with him. My point wasnt really a mac v pc anyway - more relating to how both these camps dominate the computer industry and how this industry is manifest. Through a marketing smokescreen it gets harder and harder to know which modeller to choose for example. This is because 'marketing' is the product these days; the thing itself is almost incidental. With all respect Its all-too-common for people to use the 'brilliant marketing twat' argument-but this is an illusion. Success of this nature is algorithimic; the googles and ebays and apples are there because they propogated to the top NOT because they are the best per se. This is in fact precisely my point, as in reference to the late great Jay Miner, and arguably Clive Sinclair who 'Should' be the PC's and Apples today if actual truth had permanence. the autodeks, apples, and microsofts have reached great heights by climbing on the shoulders of the deceased or the introverted geniuses who created the medium NOT because they 'brilliant'.

new thread?
