...........Following from the question about geometry I am keen to get a handle on how emitters affect ram useage when using multilight. Clearly memory useage increases with more emitters, but is this increase proportional to number of seperate emitters (even if they are attached together as agroup (to allow for fewer light sliders in the multilight panel), or relate to number of light sliders per-se. And does ram useage increase exponentially with resoloution when using multi light. I am keen to understand general limits in resolution when using multilight as have found I cannot go any higher then 4000 pixels across with about ten seperate sliders in a scene. My nodes have 8gb of ram in each.

General first principles explanation of multilight/emitters would be great.

Thanks in advance...

Just for the ram usage (ML or not), it scales pretty well when doubling the resolution. MXCL uses about 2.5x more RAM even though the amount of pixels in the image is 4x more. So if you have a 500x500 image with 10 sliders and it's using 20MB of ram, it's going to use about 50mb if you render it at 1000x1000.

It's the number of light sliders in MXCL that matters, not the amount of emitting surfaces in the scene.
