I'm doing a maxwell render for three units in 3D max and i'm wondering what would be the best shrubs to use (with textures) for rendering with maxwell. I'm not too fussed about converting objects.

I got the Maxwell-ready stuff from Evermotion. Works for me. Dunno whether it meets your standards, of course. Check out their site.

The Models Look Ace. I've bought some and i'm trying to import them into 3D max, however they will open in their own scene but it seems i can't merge them into any other scene. hmmm any other ideas?

I think it would be wise to go for the mxs files and add them in the Studio.

Use XRef Scene to bring the plants into your Max model.

If the materials work on there own they should still work when xref'd.

Another advantage is if the meshes start getting to heavy you can unload and reload them as needed.

Not all models are in MR formats. All Archmodels can be found here:

Newer models (since package 44 I guess) also include mxs version. Sometimes the mxs version is useless (new SSS in 1.7 version).

thanks jsf. that seems to have really pointed me in the right direction. Would it be ok if you had enough time to do a quick walkthrough of the process that you use? (step wise?)

i would appreciate it alot, it's just that it's proving to be a little more difficult than i thought (mainly the trees do not show up in the main scene when xref'd)

Evermotion is nice, but ready2render.com has some really great Maxwell ready plants and trees.

No problem. I have used them in some of my renders for work and they work well.
