Okayyy ... Suppose I'd like to take a Silo model into the Studio (no plugin, remember? ;) ), and suppose the model was textured in Silo (using maps from mxms), what would I have to do next?

I haven't got a clue - been using SU exclusively so far. Never did any texturing in the Studio.

Oh, and errr, what about setting up a camera?

You'll have to familiarize yourself with studio, without a plugin you're screwed, I'm in the same boat as well being a modo user, so I export my model as obj or stl, bring it into studio and go from there. It a real workflow killer because sometimes (ok most of the time you have to make changes) so i'm constantly importing/exporting bits and pieces.

Best of luck

Hmm ... yeah. Thanks. But how does it work exactly? Allow me to elaborate: suppose I got texture maps from an mxm I downloaded. Suppose I apply the diffuse map in Silo, export as an obj or 3ds, where do I go from there? Concerning the textures, I mean. I use "auto mxm' when exporting from SU. Obviously, that's not a possibility when exporting from Silo. How do I get Maxwell to "know" which mxm relates to the map I used?

Hey no i gotcha, UV's are not my favorite part of 3d, when i export to obj from modo i get a warning about obj not supporting complex UV's, but i havent really textured much that couldn't be done with planar or box UV sets, trying to UV a curved wall at the moment which is painful. You might want to checkout the demo of Headus UV Layout

http://www.uvlayout.com/

Been playing with this over the weekend as modo's unwrap tool isnt working the way i want(my ignorance)

Have you played around with studios UV tools at all?

Select the object in the objects menu, then the UV set in the Object Parameters window and play from there, select the UVW button(red/white/yellow button near top of interface) and you can rotate, scale, move with W,E,R keys. If your not using a modeller with a plugin for maxwell its kind of difficult, there was a thread i found a couple of weeks ago that covered exporting/importing a UV set from modo into studio, i cant find the link though.

Studio seems to read Silo UV's just fine, I just tried. Certainly no need to use another UV-package. However as Silo does not support Maxwell - there's of course no proper mxm-export....
Also the .mtl file, written at .obj export from Silo seems not to get read - objects appear in Studio without the diffuse texture I previously assigned inside Silo. They show correct UV seams with Maxwells default checker texture though. In my quick test I could not figure out to select these single single UV-patches in Studio in order to manually assign textures. But I could imagine that there's a way... I simply never use Studio.

Thanks for the info, lads. I'm starting to think it wouldn't be a bad thing to use, say, Max as a "go-between" between Silo and Maxwell.
