Hello,

I am rendering a wine glass chandelier/ rack for a project. There seems to be some, what I think are, anomalies but maybe not. This images has rendered to 15.5 SL. The anomalies in question are the white dots mainly on the lower tire of wine glasses. Maybe this is normal but they seem odd. I am just using a low grade glass from the wizard. Any ideas on a better glass to use maybe? Any input appreciated.

Thanks,

Aaron

Weird, it somehows looks like the glasses dont have a rim, as if they're made of solid glass with no interior. But that's not case is it? Could be the lighting..

Hi,

Yes, the glass does have a thickness. I am using sky dome and one light bulb hanging between the wine glasses in the upper rack. If I increase the ambient light, sky dome in this case, the glasses appear more transparent and realistic and if I use less light they actually turn black, which does not seem normal to me. Because of that and the white dots, I am thinking the glass is incorrect or maybe the way I modeled the glass?

I am worried because this restaurant does not have many windows and will not receive much ambient lighting from the sun.

Are those white dots needing more SL for them to come together and make sense, clear up, perhaps. I noticed the more SL the more dots. Maybe they just have not cleared up. I know there is a lot reflection going on. Any way to achieve the look without the hefty SL requirement?

My guess is, that with all the caustics being generated in this scene, it will be clear at about S.L. 25-30. I think those white dots are baby caustics. Also, is your light bulb an emitter encased in glass? If so, that will create even more noise!

I do have the emitter incased in a clear AGS glass bulb. If I use AGS for the wine glasses, maybe that would help. I would lose the caustics effect though correct? I will not be able to render to that high of a SL only to about 18 SL.

Any idea why the glass is black when I turn off sky dome?

I think the glass is black because to lighten it up requires caustics from your one lightsource. I think it would lighten up in time... lots of time. I think your scene lighting needs adjusting. Add more emitter planes in the scene to bathe the glasses in light.

I see. Here is a quick render using AGS from the wizard. The glass did not cast any shadows. I'd be ok with shadows and no caustics. These are going to be at the end of the back end of my view any way.

It is rendering properly now. I had bad geometry in my glass models so I rebuilt them. It is rendering cleanly now. I will post it when it is finished.
