I use Revit and I export to FBX. Then I use FBX converter to create an obj file
I import this obj in MXST and it crashes every 30 seconds!
Especially when I select some objects and change the smoothing angle (because the obj quality from fbx converter is not so good).

Practically, nothing works ok with this scene so I will make some more tests....

For example if I select an object and right click and change appearance from shaded to toon for example, MXST crashes...

Also, MXST cannot accept FBX from fbx converter even if I save it to a previous version....

Generally, nothing works ok.... I know that I don't give much info here, but I just want to learn if someone else has experienced errors with FBX, FBX converter, smoothing objects etc.

the version of FBX that Revit exports is too new for most existing tools to work properly (I believe Max2009 is the only thing that can handle the new FBX right now)--i've found that exporting as acis solids (dwg) and then opening in Rhino is the best method (for me) for getting geometry out of Revit. You still end up with a bit of clean-up work though…

This is the MXS and the obj file.... I tried to use Pack and Go but it crashed, I tried to remove mats and assign default mat and I see that if I choose a wall and want to change the smooth angle (select smooth from obj properties), it crashes...
So, you can just remove the mats and assign default mat, no difference.

DivShare File - 333.rar

Thank you in advance for your time.... The most important is to see if it is a problem of the scene itself or something with my PC....I will re-create the scene from the RVT file to see if there was something wrong from the begining...

JTB, can Revit export to STL format? I have been receiving a lot of files lately exported from inventor, I model in modo so i convert the stl to Lightwave format with Accutrans 3D http://www.micromouse.ca great little program for $20 US.Demo is fully functional, actually there is no nag screen or any copy pretection, but the support guy is very helpful.
Maxwell Studio imports STL natively, just my 2 cents,
might be worth a try

Cheers

JTB, I tried doing all the things you mentioned, with both the .mxs and importing the obj. Changing the smoothing angle, for just one object, or several at a time. I merged some objects also and then changed their smoothing angle. Removed all materials and applied a default one. I got no crashes.

Perhaps if you just import the obj and start using a default material, do you still get crashes? I don't know if it's something to do with the particular materials you use in that scene because I didn't have the textures.

I'm on Win32 as well.

@Brett Morgan : Thanks a lot, I will try that too!

@Mihai : Thanks a lot for your time, I think there is a general problem with my maxwell installation so I will re-install it to that PC...
I have problems with more scenes, so I have to check what's wrong.

It seems there is something more than MXST problems.... Recently I updated my CG driver and this is the only thing I can blame for now.... Almost every scene crashes, even when I just press the middle mouse button .... I think this will take some time....

OK, one thing that I find that makes things better, is to uncheck Vertex buffer from preferences (needs OpenGL 1.5) but I see some strange red flickers in MXST's view.... Not annoying since I can render now....

Can someone confirm that this can be a reason for my problems?
