I know it could be a silly question but, when I use Maxwell I've to take consideration about the" linear workflow "used in some famous biased renderer ? Am I supposed to know about color space, profile ,gamut ,gamma etc etc to use Maxwell at his full power ?
My 1.8/2.2 gamma texture images need some corrections before rendering like they do in Kray or Vray or Mental Ray ?

Please let me know what you think.

you do not need to do any of this when rendering in Maxwell. It is all being done for you behind the scenes meaning you have been working in linear space since you have started using maxwell without even knowing it.
Look at this:

Image

As you can see vray in nonlinear mode extincts the light much sooner than mxw or vray in linear mode. That is because this picture has been rendered without any respect to monitor gamma and thus pushing the mid and lowlight portions into black nothingness. mxw renders everyting correctly by nature and vray achieves a much better representation of that with a proper gamma setup. I could talk for hours on LWF in biased render engines since I deal with it every day but since this is a maxwell forum I'll just skip this portion. :)

As a conclusion: You don't need to take care of any gamma/texture stuff when you are rendering in maxwell, its all being done for you.

this means on the other hand of course that you will need to render with respect to gamma settings when you want to come close to MXW renderoutput....

thanks , I've done some cornell box test and it was like you said .But I've discovered linear space after 15 years of 3d ... and I make this question just in case I was losing something important also in Maxwell :-).

It's good that you asked! Most people in CG still have no idea the issue even exists.

Fortunately once Maxwell completes project codename 'Globalus Dominationay' (it's latin, don't try and figure it out!) no one will have to worry about it much anyway.

Wait... was that sensitive ATeam information?
