UPDATE on my slowdown situation

bug thread:

http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/view ... hp?t=28882

BASICALLY onmy quad core xeon 3gh winXp64 system w 16 gigs of ram loading 4k jpg files into MXED or having maxwell process a 4k jpg at render time caused maxwell to pause for 30 sec PER 4k jpg i had in the scene (so 4-4kjpgs took maxwell 2mins to "processdata" before voxelisation.)

on a 5 year old computer (intel 3ghz w/ 4gig ram) runing winxp 32bit maxwell 1.7 32bit
that SAME 4 k image map took less than 2 sec to "precompute" or load into MXED... WEIRD!

after testing it apear that it is the JPG format that is the problem w maxwell 1.7 64bit..
Using a 4k png or better yet a 4 k tiff file both load faster than the 4 k jpg file on windows XP 64 bit running maxwell1.7 64bit...
so the solution for me now is IF i am using a image file that is > 512 pixels to save in PNG format (takes 2-3 secs to load on my 64 bit computer)or TIF (loads in less than 1 sec)

previous post:

at first I thought it was a maya plugin problem .. but then when i got frustrated waitign 15 seconds PER image texture to load when maxwell fired up to render - I tried building the same shade rin maxwell material editor and still SAME problem.. basically..when ever I load a image map > 512 pixels it takes FOREVER 4secs(1024)-14/18secs(2048) ++++) to show up just in mxed image preview..AND it takes the same time for the maxwell ENGINE to load it at render time.. so if i have 4 2k image texture maps I have to wait over 1 minute before maxwell will even voxelize!!!!

this has been tested on my machine w/ simep geo scenes (about 20 faces in the scene) and mpre complex scenes (500+faces)

here is my thread in maya plugin section...

k- so nobody has to wait over 4-15 seconds to load a 1k or 2 k image in mxed. .when they selecthat image it shows up in th eimage preview instantaniously correct?

so im the only joker w/ this problem?

Im working with pretty new computer too.. go it in hjan of this year.. dual xeon 3ghz 16g ram- sata drive- windowsXP 64 bit -2 quadrofx 4600 cards.. and 10000rpm sata drive...

k
well i gues sill Uninstall maxwell and reinstall it.. and then ill uninstall my graphics drivers and itsall them- or intall newer or older ones to se if its a nvidia quadro fx 4600 problme.... and then ill throw the comuter in the river and become a park ranger...ahh i can small the fresh air already..

OK UPDATE: large JPS (> 512pixel) dont work fast for 64bit maxwell

lesson learned: USE png or tiff instead...

can someone with maxwell 1.7 64 bit runing winXP 64bit try to load a 4 k JPG file into mxed and see if you have to wait 30secs for it to show up? and also have to wwait at render time for "loading bitmaps and preprocessign data"

Strange problem you're having there 3DTP. It sounds like it's something with your system or possibly antivirus or some other background task like that which is running and slowing things down that much for you.

I tested importing multiple jpeg's into the materialeditor, resolutions varied from 4096pix to 8192pix and even up to 16,384pix square resolutions without any extreme slowdowns or delays. Loading times for the highest resolution was perhaps 10-15 secs at most but that's a 29mb jpeg image.

wow. effin'a!

thnx max for ur input..

i tested this on 2 64bit machine and both have same problem...

what can i do to run diagnostics...

its seems maxwell specific.. loading those same maps into fry render they load instintaniously and also they load quick into maya file nodes.. and open in photoshop quickly...

ill have to just shut all win services down?

also would this be a graphics card issue?
I have dual quadro fx 4600's and tested in sli and multiprocessor mode
and i rolled back drivers to the ones shiped w the system to me -from jan '08
im pissed with i would had know that new xeon architecture was right around the corner when ibought these.. the new 45nm xeons have the "virtualization" modes which woudl b great to have

what can i do to run diagnostics on my system? anyone?

and ill start by tryinto disable our company antivirus

what about direct x drivers? would that slow it down i think im runing 9c

Try if possible to move the textures to another hdd, doesn't matter if it's a slower one but just to see if you get any difference in speed when you try to load them into the editor.

About disabling services, it's difficult to say from where i'm sitting which one's you should enable and disable.
