Hi,

Since 1.7 being released I've testing simple fuctions and am very very please with the improvements in Studio! Rotating and moving the camera in any direction is like a knife through butter compared to 1.6! The UV Operator is smart! File loading and importing is quicker - The overall stability of Studio has made it more enjoyable! Scene crashes from 1.6 arent present! Great work to all of you guys at NL! :D

Thanks
Tea_bag

ps NEW Improvements to sss and plugins are great too! :)

from what I understand most of the stuff that you mentioned was untouched from 1.6.1 to 1.7

lol. Noticed these things too. At first I thought I was imagining it. Great improvements!

Thanks, NL!

(1.7 seems faster on some scenes too. Am I imagining this?)

i tested 1.7 on one of my last project (was an exterior scene, a bridge exactly) and in this case render was 10% faster (same condition, same machine..)

in other 2 projects (semi-interior scenes) time was = than 1.6

Funny, I did my test on a bridge model too. Great minds think alike, eh?

Yes, there have been performance improvements in Studio in many areas, specially with very big scenes. Loading (mxs and other geometries), painting (moving/rotating), and handling. But there are also some operations in Studio that weren't done in previous version so it's not always faster.

Also the new physical sky is much faster than the old one and exterior scenes will be faster, always depending how much time is spent in calculating the sky. I mean, in a very heavy exterior scene that improvement can be almost non noticeable.

eeheheheh right Stinkie!! :D

..and i confirm that new skylight is faster in "not too huge exterior scenes" projects than 1.6..
on my machines the gap is about 15% - 10%

One small but very useful new feature (i think..) was the one when you export your materials from Studio and you can choose to include all textures and store them in a 'textures' folder. That is something i wanted to have for a very long time, thanks for that small but nice and useful feature. :)

I am also very happy with the updates in general as of late. The teething problems are dying very quickly with Maxwell and the stages of refining the software are taking over and providing immense opportunity for Render domination!!!!! I love how I can set up 4 scenes in Maxwell in the same time it takes me to do 1 in Vray. Id gladly take render times over the frustrations and limitations i am plagued with in Vray trying to create the same quality and effect.

Cheers NL, keep it coming!!

This is really a great update...Maxwell gets better and better.... Now the only big problem I see is correct and faster dielectrics.... especially their interaction with light sources...
