I have been placing some instances in my model an all of the sudden a few of my instances just disappeared. I'm pretty sure they are still there, but they are not being shown!!

(and I'm not talking about having the option of only showing the instances that are selected ) I'm talking about the same object, same instances, one showing up and other not showing... I haven't rendered yet to see if they show on the rending though

Thank you for posting this. I was having this problem the other day with some trees. Later into my project, after several attempts to get the instances placed, my renders showed several trees copied over the top of one another, slightly offset, which to me indicates that they were instances I thought had disappeared, but now had reappeared. It seemed to always occur after some sort of scaling or rotation of the master object, but I am not certain. It was very frustrating as each 200k poly tree was slow to copy out only to see my work vanish before my eyes!

Leo is that maxwell 1.7? I had the same problem with studio 1.6 and I was hoping this issues will be solved in the new version.

Hi,

Please could you open the preferences dialog and go to the Instances section? . Change the display proxy to 100%, does it make any difference?

Thanks,

Juan

Juan, I can't confirm if it fixed the problem 100%, but I did a new test using proxy at 100% and it's working fine

This "proxy" parameter should affect just the amount of instances displayed in the Studio viewport (it's adjustable for performance reasons, displaying instances could be a problem when there is a massive amount of them).

In 1.6 the proxy was an absolute number, so for instance when you had a object with 100 instances, and proxy = 10, in this case only the first 1-10 instances were painted. The problem is that the spatial distribution was poor because Mxst was not painting the instances 11-100, so you could not get an idea of the real distribution of the instances.

In 1.7 we decided to put this number as a percent, so now if you have an object with 100 instances and you set the proxy to 10%, it paints the instances 1, 10, 20, 30, 40...etc, so you get a better idea of how instances are located in the space.

You can just put 100% here to paint all the instances, its recommended when there is not a large number of them.

It's important to mention again that this proxy parameter should affect only to the display but instances that are not displayed in viewport should be rendered properly by the engine.

Regards,

Juan

got it!
Thanks Juan,

one more thing;
when I make a new instance rotation comes back to zero (scale and placement work fine)
